Reading Time: < 1 minute

The Stony Brook Film Festival is set to make a triumphant return to the university’s Staller Center for the Arts from July 18 through July 27. Celebrating its 29th year, the festival’s presenting sponsor is Island Federal Credit Union, with additional support from Campolo, Middleton & McCormick, Suffolk County, Altice Media, and WLIW21.

Featuring 36 films from 19 countries, the festival promises a diverse and engaging lineup. While the full schedule won’t be revealed until June 12, it has been announced that nine of the films are from festival alumni. For filmmakers, festivals like this provide a crucial platform for showcasing their work and connecting with audiences.

The opening night film, “The Blond Boy from the Casbah,” hails from France and follows a filmmaker and his son on a journey to Algiers. The closing night film, “One Million Minutes,” marks the directorial debut of Christopher Doll and stars his wife, Karoline Herfurth, a renowned actress and director from Germany.

Festival director Alan Inkles expressed his excitement for Herfurth’s return to the festival, highlighting her previous works that have been featured. Attendees can look forward to a Q&A session with Herfurth and Doll following the screening of “One Million Minutes,” as well as an award ceremony and closing night party.

Early bird passes are currently available at discounted rates until June 10. Film enthusiasts and industry professionals alike won’t want to miss this opportunity to experience the magic of the Stony Brook Film Festival.
