Arabian Travel Market (ATM) Kicks Off in Dubai Amidst Global Turbulence

Dubai, known for its luxurious hotels, stunning architecture, and vibrant culture, has once again been recognized as the world’s No.1 city destination in the Top 100 City Destinations Index 2023 by Euromonitor International. As the UAE continues to attract visitors from around the world, the annual Arabian Travel Market (ATM) is set to take place this week in Dubai, bringing together industry stakeholders to address the challenges facing the travel sector.

Against a backdrop of global recovery from Covid-19, high inflation rates affecting travel, and turbulence in the region, ATM aims to strengthen the sector’s resilience and future-proof it from economic disruptions. With a record number of 2,300 exhibitors and 200 speakers, the event will feature panel discussions on innovation, entrepreneurship, and security, drawing in approximately 41,000 attendees from 165 countries.

ATM provides a platform for destinations to showcase their latest touristic developments, from Abu Dhabi’s diverse experiences to Sharjah’s innovation projects, Saudi Arabia’s leisure attractions, and Oman’s tourist sites. While the UAE and the GCC remain desirable destinations with retail, heritage, and hospitality offerings, the ongoing Israel-Gaza war has had a significant impact on tourism in neighbouring countries like Egypt and Jordan.

As the travel industry looks to rebound from the effects of conflict and economic distress, ATM serves as a valuable opportunity for collaboration and knowledge-sharing. By learning from each other’s strategies and promoting tourism to new destinations, stakeholders can work towards a more resilient and sustainable future for the travel sector.
