Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has raised concerns about Russia’s intentions to disrupt the upcoming Global Peace Summit in Switzerland in June. Zelenskyy revealed that Kyiv has received credible intelligence indicating Russia’s plans to sabotage the international gathering, potentially jeopardizing efforts for peace.

This revelation comes amidst escalating tensions between Ukraine and Russia, with the United States recently confirming the covert delivery of long-range missiles to Ukraine for use against Russian forces. The Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS) was approved for delivery by US President Joe Biden in February and March, with Ukraine reportedly utilizing the missiles in battle on two occasions.

National security adviser Jake Sullivan explained that the missile shipment was a response to Russia’s acquisition of ballistic missiles from North Korea and its intensified attacks on civilian infrastructure in Ukraine. The US has allocated significant military aid, including €57 billion, to support Ukraine in its defense against Russian aggression.

While the specifics of the missile delivery remain undisclosed for operational reasons, Sullivan emphasized the importance of bolstering Ukraine’s capabilities in the face of Russian threats. Zelenskyy’s warning about Russia’s disruptive intentions at the Global Peace Summit underscores the high stakes involved in the ongoing conflict between the two nations.

As preparations for the summit continue, Switzerland faces the challenge of ensuring a peaceful and productive gathering amidst geopolitical tensions. With uncertainty surrounding Russia’s participation and Zelenskyy’s alert about potential interference, the international community will be closely monitoring developments leading up to the summit in June.
