The Women’s Tennis Team Progresses to the Semifinals of the MEAC Tournament

Morgan State University’s women’s tennis team secured a thrilling victory over North Carolina Central in the first round of the MEAC Women’s Tennis Championships. The match came down to the wire, with Morgan State emerging victorious with a 4-3 win.

North Carolina Central took an early lead by claiming the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. However, Morgan State fought back in singles play. Iva Jankovic and Averiana Mitchell secured wins at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, respectively, to bring the Bears back into contention.

The match was tied at 2-2 after North Carolina Central’s Bernier won at No. 3 singles. The tension escalated as the teams battled it out in the remaining singles matches. Hidalgo Vega’s victory at No. 1 singles put NCCU ahead 3-2, but Morgan State’s Hanna Smith leveled the score at 3-3 with a hard-fought win at No. 2 singles.

The deciding match came down to No. 6 singles, where Morgan State’s Stefania Moysiadi faced off against NCCU’s Lafilissa Joao. After a closely contested match, Moysiadi emerged victorious with a 6-2 win in the third set, clinching the overall victory for Morgan State.

With this win, Morgan State advances to the semifinals where they will face off against South Carolina State.
