Coeur d’Alene Regional Chamber Honors Students with Scholarships

Abigail Fitzgerald, a senior at Coeur d’Alene Charter Academy, stood centerstage at the Coeur d’Alene Regional Chamber’s annual scholarship breakfast, addressing a crowd of hundreds. She was one of 115 students awarded $1,000 scholarships to further their education, thanks to the generosity of chamber businesses and the Coeur d’Alene Tribe.

In total, over $115,000 in scholarships was presented at the event, with an additional $500 awarded to ten students for their “Strength of Character.” Chief Allan, chairman of the Coeur d’Alene Tribe, emphasized the importance of education, reminding students that it is something no one can ever take away from them.

Keynote speaker Wendi Secrist, executive director of the Idaho Workforce Development Council, highlighted the need for adaptability in the workforce, as the pace of change continues to increase. She expressed confidence in the graduates’ ability to meet the challenges ahead.

Students like Andi Jane Howard of Coeur d’Alene High School and Tsones Nomee of Lakeside High School expressed their gratitude for the scholarships, recognizing the doors it has opened for their future education. Ashley Kerns of Lake City High School emphasized the dedication each senior has shown to their education, and how it is now paying off.

The Coeur d’Alene Regional Chamber Scholarship Program has seen significant growth in recent years, thanks to the support of the Coeur d’Alene Tribe and local businesses. Chamber president and CEO Linda Coppess urged business leaders to continue supporting the students through mentorship and opportunities for internships or jobs upon their return home from college.

The event was a celebration of the hard work and determination of these young scholars, who are poised to make a positive impact on their communities and beyond.
