This week kicks off with a packed schedule as prep sports playoffs get underway

Routt County high school athletics are gearing up for an action-packed week with teams competing in various sports across the state.

On Wednesday, the Steamboat Springs girls lacrosse team, ranked No. 15 in the 4A classification, will face off against No. 18 Durango at Gardner Field. The winner of this game will advance to play No. 2 Evergreen on Friday.

Also on Wednesday, the Steamboat girls soccer team, ranked No. 30, will travel to take on No. 3 Windsor in the first round of the playoffs. Despite Windsor’s strong 11-3-1 record, the Sailors have a slight advantage in goals per game.

Thursday will see the Steamboat girls golf team hosting a tournament at Steamboat Golf Club, while the girls tennis team will begin their state championship tournament in Colorado Springs.

Moving on to Friday, the Steamboat boys lacrosse team, seeded No. 3 with a 13-2 record, will have a bye in the first round of playoffs and await the winner of a Tuesday night game. The team is set to host the second round game at Gardner Field.

Finally, on Saturday, the Steamboat Springs baseball team will host a doubleheader against Summit to conclude their regular season. Game one will kick off at 11 a.m. at the Emerald Mountain Fields.

It’s an exciting week ahead for Routt County high school athletes as they showcase their skills and compete for postseason glory.
