Attaya Thitikul Takes Lead at Mihuho Americas Open

In a stunning display of skill and determination, rising star Attaya Thitikul surged ahead to claim the halfway lead in the Mihuho Americas Open with a remarkable round of 7-under 65 at Liberty National. The 21-year-old from Thailand, who is playing in her third event this year due to a thumb injury, birdied five of the final seven holes to secure her position at the top of the leaderboard.

Thitikul’s flawless performance put her two shots ahead of first-round leader So Mi Lee of South Korea and three shots in front of top-ranked Nelly Korda, Mao Saigo of Japan, Ariya Jutanugarn of Thailand, and rookie Gabriela Ruffels of Australia. Despite facing tough competition, Thitikul remained focused and determined throughout the round.

“I played with Atthaya today and my round felt like poop compared to hers,” said Korda, who shot a 68. “She’s playing phenomenal golf the past two days. I’m happy to be in it; three back at the halfway point, but hopefully I can give it my best.”

Thitikul, who has already secured two LPGA career wins in 2022, credited her recent success to a change in putters and a renewed focus on enjoying the game. With a strong start in the Mihuho Americas Open, Thitikul is poised to continue her impressive performance and make a run for the title.

As the tournament progresses, all eyes will be on Thitikul as she looks to maintain her lead and secure a victory against a competitive field of talented golfers.
