Threads introduces personalized mute filters and hints at upcoming quote post controls

Threads, the messaging app by Instagram, is rolling out a new feature called “Hidden Words” that allows users to filter out offensive words and phrases from their feeds and mentions. This feature automatically mutes common words, phrases, and emojis that users may find offensive, and users can also add their own custom filters in the settings. The company stated that users have the option to turn off these settings at any time.

This announcement comes shortly after the dating app Hinge introduced a similar feature with the same name to block unwanted comments containing specific words.

In addition to the “Hidden Words” feature, Threads is also planning to introduce controls for quoting posts. Users will soon be able to limit who can quote their posts and manually unquote their own posts. The company’s goal with these new controls is to reduce unwanted interactions on the platform.

Threads is also testing a feature that allows users to mute notifications for interactions with posts. While some of these features are still in the testing phase, the company is continuously shipping new updates, including a feature that automatically archives posts.

During Meta’s recent earnings call, Mark Zuckerberg revealed that Threads has amassed over 150 million monthly active users, indicating the app’s growing popularity and the importance of implementing these new features to enhance user experience and safety.
