The Darrang District Branch of Assam Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Service Association (AAHVSA) recently celebrated ‘World Veterinary Day’ with a daylong program honoring three outstanding entrepreneurs in the field of animal husbandry. The event, held with the theme “Veterinarians are Essential Health Worker,” aimed to recognize the crucial role of veterinarians in maintaining a healthy society.
During the celebration, women dairy farmer Sita Rani Hazarika of Howly village, layer farmer Sah Alam Abu Sharif of Mangaldai, and goatery farmer Dimbeswar Saharia of village Mahaliapara were felicitated for their contributions to the industry. They were presented with a letter of citation and a traditional Assamese phulam gamosa as a token of appreciation.
The event was inaugurated by senior journalist and president of Mangaldai Media Circle Bhargab Kumar Das, who lit a lamp in the traditional way. District Veterinary Officer Dr. Jogendra Nath Saharia presided over the function, while secretary of Darrang District Branch of AAHVSA Dr. Ranjan Kumar Sarma highlighted the significance of the day.
Various speakers, including Dr. Bajrul Islam and Dr. Bhupen Saharia, emphasized the importance of veterinarians in maintaining a healthy society. Young veterinarians Dr. Jyotirmoy Saharia and Dr. Baharul Islam welcomed the officials and guests, while retired District Veterinary Officer Dr. Ananta Barua and other prominent figures in the field also attended the celebration.
The event served as a platform to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of individuals in the veterinary field and underscored the essential role they play in ensuring the well-being of animals and society as a whole.
