Tennessee Men’s Tennis Trio Set to Compete in NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships

STILLWATER, Okla. – After an impressive run to the NCAA Championships quarterfinals as a team, three members of the Tennessee men’s tennis team are gearing up to compete in the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships at Greenwood Tennis Center from May 20-25.

Senior Johannus Monday and junior Shunsuke Mitsui will represent UT in singles play, while Monday will also team up with graduate Angel Diaz for doubles action. The field includes 64 singles players and 32 doubles pairs, with the singles tournament kicking off on Monday and doubles competition starting on Tuesday.

Monday, a two-time SEC Player of the Year, earned the top seed in the singles draw with a remarkable 28-3 record this season. Mitsui, named All-SEC First Team, secured an at-large bid into the singles tournament with a 23-6 record in dual match play.

In doubles, Monday and Diaz have been a formidable pair with a 17-6 record as Tennessee’s top duo. They will be looking to continue their success in the championships.

The Vols have a rich history at the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships, with four individual champions and five total finalists since 1966. Head coach Chris Woodruff, a former NCAA singles champion himself, will be guiding the team as they aim for more success in this prestigious tournament.
