Wheat farmers in the United States are facing a challenging year ahead in 2024, with profits becoming increasingly out of reach. Global supply remains ample, keeping prices at their lowest in nearly four years, while costs for equipment and transport remain high. This combination is making it difficult for many farmers to break even this year.

The situation is particularly tough for winter wheat farmers in the great plains, who may end up losing money despite having what appears to be their best crop in years. Three years of drought have previously sapped yields and forced some farmers to abandon wheat altogether.

In other news, tech giant Apple has announced new investments in solar power in the U.S. and Europe as part of their efforts to expand clean energy around the world. The company aims to address the electricity used to charge and power their devices, as well as replenish 100% of the fresh water used in corporate operations in high-stress locations.

On a lighter note, fast-food chain Wendy’s is bringing some joy to customers by offering free French fries every Friday for the rest of the year. Customers can redeem this offer with any purchase made online or through the Wendy’s app, starting tomorrow, April 19th.

Lastly, a PetSmart survey revealed that nearly half of pet parents have experienced tattoo regret or know someone who has. To help remedy this, PetSmart is promoting pet portrait cover-ups as a solution, allowing customers to celebrate their love for their pets in a unique way. This initiative is part of the launch of PetSmart’s new treats rewards loyalty program, offering frequent shoppers the chance to earn and redeem points on purchases.
