The Edwardsville High School tennis team had a stellar weekend in Kentucky, going 3-0 and improving their record to 15-5. The highlight of their weekend was a thrilling 3-2 victory over defending Kentucky state champion Covington Catholic.
Coach Dave Lipe praised his team’s performance, especially noting the impressive win over Covington Catholic. He also highlighted the team effort that led to victories over DuPont Manual and Highlands.
In their match against Covington Catholic, Edwardsville faced tough competition, with two losses including a close third-set tiebreaker at No. 1 doubles. However, singles victories by Brandon Wong and Milo Kathriner, followed by a match-clinching win by Schaefer Bates and Isaac Chleboun at No. 2 doubles secured the victory for Edwardsville.
The Tigers continued their winning streak by defeating DuPont Manual and Highlands on Saturday, showcasing their depth and talent across the lineup. Lipe emphasized the significance of these wins against strong Kentucky teams.
Overall, the weekend was a success for Edwardsville, with Lipe expressing gratitude for the opportunity to get all 12 players in the lineup. The team will now look ahead to their upcoming match against Collinsville as they aim to maintain their winning momentum in Southwestern Conference play.
