Tiger Woods to Play in 124th US Open Championship
In a surprising turn of events, Tiger Woods has accepted a special exemption to play in the 124th US Open Championship, as announced by the United States Golf Association (USGA). This decision comes after Woods failed to qualify for the prestigious tournament for the first time in his professional career, due to playing a limited schedule in recent years because of injuries.
The former world No 1’s five-year exemption for his remarkable 2019 victory at The Masters had expired earlier this year. Unlike other majors, the US Open only offers a 10-year exemption to its former winners. Woods, who has won the US Open three times in 2000, 2002, and 2008, will be returning to the event for the first time since 2020.
Expressing his excitement for the opportunity to compete in this year’s US Open, Woods stated, “The US Open, our national championship, is a truly special event for our game and one that has helped define my career.” The tournament is set to take place from June 13-16 at Pinehurst No 2 and will be broadcast live on Sky Sports.
Fans and golf enthusiasts alike are eagerly anticipating Woods’ return to the US Open, especially at a venue that holds significant meaning to the game. Stay tuned for more updates on this breaking news story as it unfolds.
