The Marshall boys hockey team wrapped up their 2023-24 season with an impressive performance, finishing with a record of 16-12. Despite falling short of a state tournament berth, the Tigers made a statement in the 3A section playoffs.

As the No. 5 seed, Marshall pulled off a series of upsets, starting with a road win against No. 4 Mankato West. They then shocked top-seeded Luverne, who had been undefeated in the Big South Conference. Senior goalie Gavin Welsh played a crucial role with an .891 save percentage in the playoffs.

Junior Owen Renslow led the team in goals with 30, while senior Talon Plante topped the assists chart with 30. With Plante graduating, Renslow will be expected to step up and lead the team next season.

The Tigers had a mix of dominant wins and close contests throughout the season, with nine victories decided by four or more goals. They even had three wins with double-digit goal differentials, including a 12-4 road win at Worthington.

With several key seniors departing, including Plante, there will be opportunities for junior players to step up and fill leadership roles. Renslow’s scoring prowess and the team’s depth will be crucial as they look to build on their success next season.
