The Elkins Tigers faced off against Liberty in a thrilling Class AA, Region II, Section 1 elimination game on Thursday evening. Despite a valiant effort, the Tigers fell short in a 12-6 defeat, bringing their season to an end.

The game got off to a rocky start for the Tigers, as Liberty quickly took a 3-0 lead in the first inning. However, Elkins fought back, tying the game in the bottom half of the inning with some clutch hitting from Brock Holland, Kenton Haddix, Lincoln Scott, and Ethan Humphrey.

The Mountaineers regained the lead with two unearned runs and an RBI sacrifice fly, but the Tigers kept it close, cutting the deficit to 7-6 in the sixth inning. Unfortunately, Liberty pulled away in the seventh, scoring five runs to secure the victory.

Despite the loss, Elkins had some standout performances, with Holland and Hinzman each contributing two hits. Lincoln Scott pitched the first three innings, striking out five batters, while Humphrey finished in relief.

The Tigers finished the season with a 6-14 record, but they showed resilience and determination throughout the game. The Mountaineers will now face Lincoln in the loser’s bracket final, with the winner advancing to face Philip Barbour for the sectional crown. The stakes are high, and the competition is fierce as the teams battle for a chance at glory.
