TikTok Takes Transparency to the Next Level with New AI-Generated Content Label

In a groundbreaking move, TikTok announced on Thursday that it will now automatically label AI-generated content, even if creators obtain it from outside companies like OpenAI, Google, or Microsoft. This new label, “AI-generated,” will be attached to images and videos created with AI technology from other tech companies, ensuring transparency for all global TikTok users.

This move by TikTok aims to provide viewers with a clear distinction between content created by AI and content created by real people. It will also help business owners who use TikTok to attract and grow their audience, as they can now tap into AI trends or differentiate their brand with the “AI-generated” label.

What sets TikTok apart is its collaboration with other big tech companies to establish a universal standard for AI-generated content. By using content credential technology from the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity, TikTok can detect AI content and mark it with an invisible watermark.

This initiative by TikTok is part of a larger effort to prevent AI-related election interference, as the platform was one of 20 tech companies that signed a pledge earlier this year. With TikTok facing a potential ban in the U.S., this move towards transparency and accountability could help the platform maintain its 170 million U.S. users.

Overall, TikTok’s automatic labeling of AI-generated content marks a significant step towards ensuring trust and transparency on the platform, setting a new standard for social media platforms worldwide.
