Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, sells 200,000 shares and earns a substantial amount of money

Apple CEO Tim Cook has recently made headlines after selling nearly 200,000 shares of the company’s stock, raking in a whopping $16.4 million after taxes. The sale, disclosed in a U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission filing, consisted of 196,410 shares sold in multiple transactions at prices ranging from $168.255 to $169.195 per share, totaling around $33.2 million before taxes.

These shares were part of a performance-based stock award granted to Cook in September 2020 and September 2021. The sale was conducted in accordance with a predetermined Rule 10b5-1 trading plan that Cook adopted in November 2022, providing protection against insider trading liability for company executives.

Despite the recent sale, Cook still retains a significant stake in Apple, holding onto nearly 3.3 million shares. Since joining Apple in 1998 and taking over as CEO in 2011, succeeding the legendary Steve Jobs, Cook has been instrumental in the company’s growth and success.

Cook’s decision to sell Apple shares is not uncommon among the company’s senior executives. In 2021, he sold 5 million shares for an estimated $355 million, and in October 2023, he offloaded shares worth approximately $41.5 million.

The recent sales come at a time of fluctuating stock prices for Apple, which have seen a decline since hitting an all-time high in December 2023. However, analysts remain optimistic about the tech giant’s long-term prospects and potential for recovery.
