Timberwolves stage comeback to defeat Nuggets in Game 7, move on to Western Conference Finals

Reading Time: < 1 minute

In a stunning Game 7 showdown, the Minnesota Timberwolves pulled off a historic comeback to eliminate the reigning NBA champions, the Denver Nuggets, with a final score of 98-90. Anthony Edwards, despite a slow start, played a pivotal role in the Timberwolves’ victory, finishing with 16 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists.

The Timberwolves overcame a 15-point halftime deficit, marking the largest comeback in a Game 7 in NBA playoff history. Edwards’ impact on the game was undeniable, despite his 6-of-24 shooting performance.

As the game progressed, Edwards stepped up defensively, denying Jamal Murray multiple times in the crucial moments of the game. Karl-Anthony Towns and Jaden McDaniels also contributed significantly, each scoring 23 points.

The Wolves’ victory marked their first trip to the Western Conference finals in 20 years. They will now face the Dallas Mavericks in the next round.

On the other side, Murray and Nikola Jokic put up impressive performances for the Nuggets, but they received little help from their teammates. The Nuggets’ hopes of reaching the conference finals were dashed as the Timberwolves sealed the game with a strong defensive effort and clutch plays.

The Nuggets, who were playing in their fifth Game 7 in the last six seasons, fell short of their goal, while the Timberwolves celebrated a hard-fought victory. The defeat marked the fifth consecutive season that the defending champion failed to reach the conference finals.

Despite the loss, Nuggets coach Michael Malone remained optimistic about the team’s future, emphasizing the lessons learned from this season. Murray echoed this sentiment, expressing determination to bounce back and reclaim their status as contenders in the league.
