Titans face challenges in IPL 2024 season: Ahmedabad News

Reading Time: < 1 minute

In a stunning turn of events, the Gujarat Titans, once the darlings of the Indian Premier League (IPL), have seen their fortunes take a nosedive in their third season. Coached by former India pacer Ashish Nehra, the Titans had a dream debut in 2022, clinching the championship title before finishing as runners-up in 2023. However, their luck seemed to have run out this year as they failed to secure a playoff spot after a washed-out match against Kolkata Knight Riders.

The team’s downfall can be attributed to a series of setbacks, starting with captain Hardik Pandya’s departure back to Mumbai Indians and premier pacer Mohammad Shami’s injury ruling him out of the tournament. Without their key players firing on all cylinders, the Titans struggled to replicate their previous success on the field.

In the bowling department, the Titans found it difficult to take wickets, with their top bowlers from the previous seasons, Mohit Sharma and Rashid Khan, failing to make an impact. The batting order also faltered, with openers Shubman Gill and Wriddhiman Saha unable to provide a solid foundation for the middle order to build on.

Despite the disappointing season, there was a glimmer of hope in the form of Sai Sudharsan, who emerged as a standout performer with his consistent batting performances. However, the team’s overall performance was marred by inconsistent middle-order batting, lackluster fielding, and missed opportunities.

As the Titans gear up to face Sunrisers Hyderabad in their final match of the season, they will be playing for pride alone. The fans and experts are left scratching their heads at the drastic fall from grace of a team that was once considered a force to be reckoned with in the IPL.
