The scorching heatwave in the National Capital has claimed its first victim, as a 40-year-old man from Bihar’s Darbhanga district succumbed to a fatal heatstroke in a Delhi hospital. Working at a factory, he battled against the intense heat, with temperatures reaching a record 50 degrees Celsius in the city. The attending physician revealed that the man’s living conditions, devoid of a cooler or fan, exacerbated his condition, leading to a body temperature of 107 degrees Fahrenheit, far beyond the normal range and ultimately proving fatal. This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for public awareness and precautionary measures during heat waves.

As the mercury continues to rise, it’s not just our bodies that are affected, but our eyes as well. Dry eye has become a significant issue during this heatwave, with symptoms including stinging, redness, sensitivity to light, and blurry vision. To prevent and manage dry eye, experts recommend staying hydrated, using a humidifier, taking regular screen breaks, wearing UV-protected sunglasses, applying warm compresses, consuming omega-3 fatty acids, and avoiding direct airflow from fans and air conditioners.

In the midst of this scorching heatwave, it’s crucial to take precautions to stay safe. Residents of Delhi NCR are advised to stay hydrated, seek shade, wear lightweight clothing, protect their skin from the sun, and limit outdoor activities during peak heat hours. Keeping a close eye on vulnerable individuals and being aware of heat-related symptoms can help mitigate the risks associated with extreme heat. By following these guidelines, individuals can stay safe and healthy during this challenging period in Delhi NCR.
