Thomas B. “Tom” Anderson, a beloved member of the Laporte community, passed away at the age of 78. Tom, a dedicated Biology Teacher at Sullivan County High School for 30 years, touched the lives of countless students and community members. Known for his passion for teaching and coaching basketball, Tom was also a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
Born in Sunbury in 1945, Tom was a graduate of Bloomsburg University and had a successful career in education. After retiring, he focused on spending time with his family, especially his son Brett, daughter-in-law Tammy, and three grandchildren, Connor, Owen “Bubba,” and Reese Elizabeth Anderson.
Tom’s commitment to his family and community was unwavering, as he could always be found supporting his loved ones at family gatherings, school events, and sporting competitions. His legacy of kindness and dedication will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at Laporte United Methodist Church, where friends and community members can pay their respects. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to be made to the Sullivan County Scholarship Association or the Laporte Volunteer Fire Company in Tom’s honor.
The Laporte community mourns the loss of a true pillar of the community, but celebrates the life and legacy of Tom Anderson, a man who dedicated his life to serving others. May his memory continue to inspire kindness and compassion in all who knew him.
