Cold Spring Harbor High School Tops Suffolk County in U.S. News & World Report Rankings
Cold Spring Harbor High School has secured the top spot in Suffolk County in the latest U.S. News & World Report’s “Best New York High Schools” rankings for 2024. With a student body of 500, Cold Spring Harbor High School is one of four Suffolk high schools to make it into the top 100 public high schools in the state.
According to the report, Cold Spring Harbor High School is ranked at No. 36 in the state, followed by Harborfields in Greenlawn at No. 54, and Half Hollow Hills’ East and West high schools at Nos. 55 and 63, respectively. The nationwide rankings for 2024 included a total of 17,660 schools, with BASIS Peoria in Arizona claiming the top spot this year after jumping from No. 12 in 2023.
In addition to its impressive ranking, Cold Spring Harbor High School boasts a 100 percent graduation rate and math proficiency rate. Furthermore, 90 percent of its students take at least one AP exam during their high school years.
New York City Public Schools also made a strong showing in the nationwide rankings, with nine high schools landing in the top 100. Nassau County, on the other hand, has 15 of New York state’s best high schools, according to U.S. News.
The top 10 Suffolk high schools on the list include Cold Spring Harbor, Harborfields, Half Hollow Hills East, Half Hollow Hills West, Westhampton Beach, John Glenn (Elwood), Babylon, Commack, Smithtown-West, and Ward Melville, each with impressive scores out of 100.
