The Dallas Morning News recently released its highly anticipated rankings of the top 100 golf courses in Texas for 2024. This ranking is a result of a collaborative effort by an 80-member panel consisting of golf professionals, course architects, superintendents, industry experts, and avid amateur golfers.
The panel was tasked with evaluating a list of 300 courses based on a 10-point scale, considering various criteria similar to those used by national golf publications. Each panel member could only vote for courses they had personally played within the last five years, ensuring a fair and updated assessment.
After the votes were tabulated, a process known as winsorization was used to address outliers and ensure the data was smoothed out. To be eligible for the Top 100 consideration, a course had to receive votes from at least 13% of the panel members.
The rankings revealed some notable courses, with TPC Craig Ranch in McKinney taking the 51st spot, Lakeside Country Club in Houston at 53rd, and the Horseshoe Bay Ram Rock Course in Horseshoe Bay ranking 54th.
However, some courses previously ranked did not make the cut this year, including The Cliffs Resort on Possum Kingdom Lake, Crown Colony Country Club in Lufkin, and Royal Oaks Country Club in Houston.
