Gujarat Titans pacer Mohit Sharma made headlines in the Indian Premier League for all the wrong reasons as he registered the most expensive spell in the league’s history. During a match against Delhi Capitals, Mohit conceded a whopping 73 runs from his four overs, breaking the previous record held by Basil Thampi of Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Despite his experience and prowess, Mohit failed to take a single wicket and was taken to the cleaners by DC captain Rishabh Pant, who scored a blistering 88* off his bowling. Pant hammered seven sixes and three fours off Mohit, with the veteran pacer ending with an economy rate of 18.25.
The Capitals posted a formidable total of 224/4 in 20 overs, with Axar Patel and Pant leading the charge with clutch fifties. In response, GT put up a valiant effort but fell short by four runs in the end. Rasikh Salam was the pick of the DC bowlers with figures of 3/44.
Mohit’s unwanted record now puts him at the top of the list of bowlers with the most expensive spells in IPL history. The veteran pacer will be looking to bounce back from this performance and make amends in the upcoming matches.
