Ida Baker Bulldogs’ softball player Mikayla Nieves and Bishop Verot Vikings’ track and field athlete James Little IV have been named the Athletes of the Week for their outstanding performances.
Nieves, a senior at Ida Baker High School, led her team to three wins last week with her impressive offensive skills. She went 7-for-10 at the plate, driving in six runs, hitting a home run, and scoring six runs herself. Nieves expressed gratitude for her time playing high school softball and credited her coaches for pushing her to improve her game.
On the other hand, Little IV, a junior at Bishop Verot, dominated the District 2A-12 finals by finishing first in three events – the triple jump, 110-meter hurdles, and 400-meter hurdles. He was also part of the winning 4×400-meter relay team. Little IV attributed his success to hard work and dedication, vowing to continue training hard for the upcoming regionals.
Both athletes have shown exceptional skill and determination in their respective sports, earning them the recognition as the Athletes of the Week. Their performances have not only brought success to their teams but have also inspired their peers to strive for excellence in their own athletic endeavors.
