The joint managing directors of Responsible Travel, Richard Skinner and Tim Williamson, have made the decision to take their business elsewhere in order to align with their company’s values.

According to a report from TTG, Skinner and Williamson were particularly troubled by the $16 billion that Barclays reportedly invested in fossil fuels in 2022. Williamson emphasized the importance of ensuring that their values are reflected in every aspect of their business, including their banking relationships.

The decision to switch banks comes at a pivotal time for Responsible Travel, as Skinner and Williamson have recently been appointed as joint managing directors of the company. Founder and chief executive Justin Francis will be stepping back to focus on activism and advisory roles, while the new leaders are urging others in the travel industry to reevaluate their banking relationships.

Responsible Travel has chosen to move its business to UK-based Unity Trust Bank, which prides itself on being a socially responsible and ethical business bank. The company believes that by divesting from banks that invest in fossil fuels, they can make a positive impact on the environment and support renewable energy initiatives.

Williamson highlighted the importance of ethical banking practices and expressed confidence in Unity Trust Bank’s investment values aligning with those of Responsible Travel.
