As the upcoming five-day Reunification Day-Labor Day holiday and peak summer travel season approach, more Vietnamese tourists are opting to travel abroad on local tour packages ranging from VND7-15 million (US$279-519) due to the rising airfares for domestic travel. In response to this trend, Ha Van Sieu, deputy head of the administration, has announced plans to promote domestic tourism by collaborating with relevant stakeholders.
The tourism industry is gearing up to introduce new tourism products that cater to market fluctuations and aim to transform challenges into opportunities. One of the proposed strategies is to diversify means of transport by connecting air travel with waterways, roads, and railways to unlock new destinations for travelers.
Leading operator Vietravel is also stepping up its game by promoting train tours in 2024. The revamped train journey experiences are expected to inject fresh energy into the domestic tourism market, especially during the peak summer season when airfares are high.
To make domestic tourism products more competitive in terms of pricing, government tourism agencies are working with local travel agencies, associations, and businesses to offer specific promotions at tourism festivals and international travel fairs. The goal is to create tour packages that are budget-friendly yet offer unique experiences for travelers.
In order to achieve reasonable price levels for domestic tourism products, industry experts are calling for synchronized solutions that involve various sectors. Associate Professor Nguyen Thien Tong has suggested the introduction of more international low-cost airlines in Vietnam to provide budget-friendly domestic flights.
With concerted efforts from all stakeholders and support from the government in the form of beneficial tax policies, the Vietnamese tourism industry is poised to thrive and attract more travelers, both domestically and internationally.
