Tourists advised to steer clear of popular Majorcan beach due to travel warning

British holidaymakers planning a trip to Majorca have been urged to steer clear of a popular tourist spot as tensions rise over an impending protest. The picturesque Calo des Moro beach in Santanyi is set to be the focal point of a demonstration on June 16, with protesters gathering between 8am and 1pm.

The protest, organized under the banner of “Objective: Recover Calo des Moro”, aims to draw attention to issues of overcrowding and over-tourism on the island. Manuela Canadas, a spokesperson for the far-right Vox party, expressed understanding for the discontent but emphasized the importance of tourism to the local economy.

As concerns mount over the potential impact on holidaymakers, Abta, the British travel association, has called on the UK travel industry to take the issue seriously. The association is working with local officials to address the situation and ensure the safety of tourists in the area.

Mallorca Plaja Tour, the organization behind the protest, sees Calo des Moro as a symbol of the challenges posed by mass tourism. They are calling for a more sustainable approach to tourism that respects the limits of the destination and the needs of local communities.
