JMU Football Sees Significant Activity in Spring Transfer Portal

As the spring season approaches, JMU football has been making waves in the transfer portal with several key departures and no new additions as of yet. The team’s roster is undergoing some changes as players make decisions about their future with the program.

One notable departure is Tyrique Tucker, a defensive tackle who had a solid performance in 2023 with 29 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, and 1.5 sacks. Tucker, who had three years of eligibility left, was a projected starter for the upcoming season but has announced his transfer to Indiana to play under Curt Cignetti.

Running back Sammy Malignaggi and tight end Collin Carroll are also among the players leaving the program. Malignaggi, who carried the ball 13 times for 71 yards last season, is transferring to Campbell, while Carroll, who redshirted in 2023, is seeking more playing time elsewhere.

Other players entering the transfer portal include Solomon Vanhorse, Wesley Bostic, Nakai Poole, Aaron Gunn, Rykin Maxwell, D’Angelo Ponds, AJ Abbasi, and Seth Naotala. Each player has their own reasons for seeking a new opportunity, whether it be for more playing time or a change of scenery.

The departure of key players like Ponds, who was a standout cornerback, will undoubtedly have an impact on the team’s defense. However, with the spring season on the horizon, JMU football will have the opportunity to regroup and potentially add new talent to fill the gaps left by these transfers. Stay tuned for more updates on JMU football’s spring transfer portal activity.
