Train bassist Charlie Colin passes away at the age of 58

NEW YORK – Charlie Colin, bassist and founding member of the American pop-rock band Train, has tragically passed away at the age of 58. The news of his death was confirmed by his sister Carolyn Stephens to The Associated Press.

Colin’s untimely death occurred after he slipped and fell in the shower while house-sitting for a friend in Brussels, Belgium, according to celebrity website TMZ.com. The music world is mourning the loss of a talented musician who played a pivotal role in the success of Train.

Born and raised in California and Virginia, Colin attended Berklee College of Music in Boston where he honed his musical skills. After college, he played in a band called Apostles before eventually forming Train with guitarist Jimmy Stafford, singer Rob Hotchkiss, and drummer Scott Underwood in San Francisco.

As a founding member of Train, Colin contributed to the band’s early hits like “Drops of Jupiter” and “Meet Virginia.” The band’s second album, “Drops of Jupiter,” was a massive success, earning them two Grammys and solidifying their place in the music industry.

Despite leaving Train in 2003 due to substance abuse issues, Colin continued to pursue his passion for music. He reunited with Hotchkiss in 2015 to form Painbirds and later started another band called the Side Deal in 2017.
