Travel advice for UK tourists visiting Spain, France, Italy, Greece, and Portugal from the Foreign Office

As summer approaches, many Brits are eagerly planning their trips abroad to soak up the sun in popular European destinations such as Spain, France, Greece, Italy, and Portugal. However, before jetting off, holidaymakers are being urged to familiarize themselves with the latest travel guidelines to ensure a smooth and hassle-free trip.

The Foreign Office regularly updates its guidance on what tourists need to know before leaving the UK, including important information on passport requirements. According to the Liverpool Echo, passport rules for the aforementioned countries are largely the same, with passports needing to be valid for at least six months from the date of entry.

For those with passports issued before October 1, 2018, it’s important to check if any extra months have been added to the expiry date. Additionally, travelers are advised to contact the local embassy or consulate if they are unsure about specific entry requirements.

In terms of visas, holidaymakers can typically travel to Spain, Portugal, France, Italy, and Greece without a visa due to their inclusion in the Schengen area of the EU. This allows for travel for up to 90 days in any 180-day period for purposes such as tourism, visiting family or friends, business meetings, or short-term studies.

As for COVID-19 testing or vaccination requirements, Italy does not currently have any in place. However, it’s important to note that rules and restrictions can change at short notice, so travelers are advised to stay informed and check with their travel provider for any updates before embarking on their European adventure.
