The Macau Government Tourist Office (MGTO) recently hosted two seminars featuring a policy and legal expert from the China National Tourism Administration (CNTA) to discuss the “Tourism Law of the People’s Republic of China” with local tour guides and travel agencies. The seminars, held on 22 November, aimed to provide clarity on the legal aspects of the Tourism Law, which has been in effect in Mainland China since 2013.
Director General of the Policy and Legal Department of CNTA, Liu Xiao Jun, led the seminars and addressed key clauses of the Tourism Law, as well as fielded questions and concerns from Macau trade professionals. MGTO Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes was also in attendance to show support for the initiative.
This is not the first time MGTO has collaborated with CNTA on this matter. In July, another policy and legal expert from CNTA visited Macau to introduce the main points of the Tourism Law to local officials and travel trade representatives. Following the implementation of the Tourism Law, MGTO has been proactive in reminding the trade to align their itinerary details with the contracts signed between Macau’s ground receiving agents and Mainland China’s tour operators.
Since the Tourism Law came into effect, MGTO has received several assistance inquiries, including a dispute between a Mainland tour-group leader and members, as well as complaints about excessive wait times. These cases highlight the importance of understanding and adhering to the regulations outlined in the Tourism Law to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for Mainland tour groups visiting Macau.
