South Tama Boys Track and Field Team Competes at Tough Norwalk Meet

NORWALK — The South Tama boys track and field team faced tough competition at the Norwalk high school meet on Monday. The annual event attracts not only 3A teams but also larger 4A teams, providing a challenging test for the Trojans early in the outdoor season.

In the sprinting events, junior Cody Blocker impressed with a time of 11.98 in the 100m dash, while senior Chase Gustafson placed 8th in the 400m dash. Seniors Tommy Tyynismaa and Cade Rosenberger competed in the 800m race, finishing 6th and 8th respectively.

In the distance events, seniors James Brant and Braxten Rohrs excelled in the 1600m run, with Brant finishing 2nd overall. Sophomore Barrett Jesina also performed well, finishing 7th in the 3200m with a personal best time.

The relay teams also found success, with the sprint medley relay team placing 6th and the 4x800m relay team securing a first-place finish. The 4x400m relay team finished 6th overall.

In the field events, sophomore Timm Chandonia impressed with a 4th place finish in the discus throw. Junior Tyrus Clegg and senior Jeramy Dolash also performed well in the long jump.

Overall, South Tama finished 8th in the team scores with 44 points. Norwalk dominated the meet with 192 points. The Trojans will look to build on their performance as they continue their season in Hudson on Thursday.
