Trump campaign criticizes Biden for designating Easter Sunday as Transgender Day of Visibility

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Former President Donald Trump and religious conservatives criticize President Joe Biden for proclaiming March 31 as “Transgender Day of Visibility” on Easter Sunday this year. The proclamation, issued by the Democratic president, calls for the recognition of transgender individuals and the elimination of discrimination based on gender identity.

However, Trump’s campaign and fellow Republicans have condemned Biden for what they see as insensitivity to the Christian holiday. Karoline Leavitt, the Trump campaign’s press secretary, called on Biden to apologize to the millions of Catholics and Christians who view Easter as a day to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. House Speaker Mike Johnson also criticized the decision, calling it “outrageous and abhorrent.”

In response, White House spokesperson Andrew Bates accused Republicans of trying to divide the country with “cruel, hateful, and dishonest rhetoric.” Bates defended Biden’s decision, stating that the president values bringing people together and upholding the dignity and freedoms of all Americans.

Despite his Catholic faith, Biden’s support for gay marriage and abortion rights has put him at odds with conservative Christians. The president has emphasized the importance of his faith in his life and considers it a core part of his morality and identity. Biden’s meeting with Pope Francis in 2021 reinforced his commitment to his Catholic beliefs, despite political differences with some members of the faith community.
