Former President Donald Trump made headlines recently with his bold statements during a fundraising event. According to a report by the Washington Post, Trump suggested that he would have bombed Moscow in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and attacked Beijing if China invaded Taiwan while he was in office.

The comments surprised some of the donors at the event, but former ambassador James Gilmore defended Trump, stating that the former president is not an isolationist but is focused on getting allies to prioritize their own defense.

Trump’s stance on Taiwan has been supportive, with the White House under his administration backing Taiwan through arms sales, a policy that has continued under the Biden administration. However, Trump has rarely mentioned Ukraine in recent months, despite claiming last year that he could have the war “settled” in less than a day.

In addition to his comments on foreign policy, Trump also discussed trade relations with China, praising Chinese leader Xi Jinping and expressing a desire for China to succeed. He mentioned the possibility of imposing tariffs of more than 60 percent but stated that he was not looking to restart the trade war.

The revelation of Trump’s statements at the fundraising event comes as he actively raises money for his re-election campaign. Despite his reluctance to participate in fundraisers during the 2016 campaign, Trump has taken a more active role in fundraising this time around, with his campaign raising more money than the Biden campaign in recent months.

While Trump’s bold statements may have surprised some, they highlight his continued influence in the political landscape and his focus on key foreign policy issues.
