Trump raises more money than Biden for the first time, reports say

Former President Donald Trump and the Republican Party have out-raised President Joe Biden and the Democrats for the first time in this election cycle, according to campaign officials. In April, Trump’s campaign, along with the Republican Party and affiliated committees, raised $76.2 million, surpassing Biden’s $51 million raised with the Democratic National Committee.

Despite the fundraising success, Trump still lags behind in total cash on hand, with Biden’s campaign ending April with $84.5 million compared to Trump’s $48 million. The filings also show that Trump continues to spend millions on legal bills, with Save America committee paying $3.3 million in April for that purpose.

Biden’s campaign manager, Julie Chavez Rodriguez, highlighted the strong grassroots enthusiasm for Biden’s campaign, contrasting it with Trump’s operation, which she described as burning through cash and lacking a ground game.

The filings also revealed that Trump’s campaign spent very little of the total haul, with most of the funds coming from transfers from joint fundraising committees. The Republican National Committee raised $32 million in April, while the Democratic National Committee raised $35.5 million.

Overall, the fundraising landscape shows a shift in momentum, with Trump and the Republicans gaining ground in fundraising efforts. However, Biden’s campaign remains confident in its grassroots support and investment in key battleground states.
