Trump shares video mentioning ‘unified empire’ if reelected

Former President Donald Trump sparked controversy with a video posted on his Truth Social account, featuring a fake newspaper article referencing a “unified Reich” if he is reelected in 2024. The video, styled as World War I-era newspaper clippings, includes headlines like “Economy Booms!” and “Border is closed,” along with a reference to the creation of a unified Reich.

The term “reich” is commonly associated with Nazi Germany under Adolf Hitler, who designated Germany as the “Third Reich” from 1933 to 1945. Trump’s campaign spokesperson, Karoline Leavitt, stated that the video was not created by the campaign and was reposted by a staffer who did not see the word while the President was in court.

In response, the Biden campaign criticized Trump for using the word “reich,” with spokesperson James Singer accusing Trump of intending to rule as a dictator. Singer urged Americans to pay attention, stating that Trump is revealing his intentions to rule over a “unified reich.”

Trump has faced criticism in the past for his rhetoric, including comments targeting Jewish Americans and undocumented migrants. Despite drawing comparisons to Hitler for his language, Trump denied any similarities at a rally in December, claiming he has never read “Mein Kampf.”

The video remains on Trump’s page, stirring debate and raising concerns about the implications of his messaging. Critics warn of the dangers of authoritarianism and urge vigilance in the face of such rhetoric.
