Trump to Hold Campaign Rally in Democratic Stronghold of the Bronx

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Former President Donald J. Trump is set to make a campaign appearance in the Bronx next Thursday, despite the borough’s overwhelming support for President Biden in the 2020 election. The event, scheduled to take place at Crotona Park, aims to address financial pressures on households and promote law and order in New York.

This campaign stop comes as Mr. Trump faces criminal charges in a Manhattan courtroom for allegedly falsifying business records to cover up a hush-money payment during the 2016 presidential election. His aides have been planning appearances around New York City during his trial, with a recent visit to a Harlem bodega where he criticized the district attorney prosecuting him.

During a Manhattan fundraiser, Mr. Trump joked about the potential dangers of holding a rally in the South Bronx, saying, “You may never see me again.” Representative Ritchie Torres, a Democrat representing the South Bronx, condemned the former president, calling him a threat to the social safety net that Bronx families rely on.

Despite the Bronx being a heavily Democratic area, Mr. Trump’s campaign is determined to make an impact. However, Representative Torres remains confident that the community will not be swayed by Mr. Trump’s rhetoric, stating, “The South Bronx – the most Democratic area in the nation – will not buy the snake oil that he is selling.”

As the former president continues to navigate legal challenges and campaign events, his appearance in the Bronx is sure to draw attention and spark debate in the community.
