West Virginia Mountaineers basketball program is making waves with new coaching additions and player transfers. Head coach Darian DeVries has added Nick Norton, former assistant coach at Drake, to his staff as assistant coach/director of player personnel. Norton brings a wealth of experience and a strong basketball IQ to the program, having previously worked under DeVries at Drake.

In other coaching news, former WVU center Rob Summers has joined Dennis Gates at the University of Missouri to help revive their struggling program. Summers, who played under John Beilein at WVU, brings a detailed understanding of the game and a passion for coaching to the Tigers.

Meanwhile, former WVU assistant Jerrod Calhoun has been named the head coach at Utah State, following successful stints at Youngstown State. Wesley Brooks, a former graduate assistant at WVU, has been appointed as the women’s head coach at Utah State.

On the player front, former WVU left-handed pitcher Randy Wolf has been traded back to the San Diego Padres from the Pittsburgh Pirates. Wolf will join Triple-A El Paso as he looks to regain his form and make an impact in the Padres organization.

As the WVU basketball program moves forward, point guard Kerr Kriisa and guard Seth Wilson have entered the transfer portal, while former forward Jesse Edwards will showcase his skills in the Reese’s Division I College All-Star game. The game will feature top senior talent from across NCAA Division I and will be broadcast live on CBS Sports Network.

Looking ahead, DeVries will make his official debut as WVU’s head coach in the 2024-25 season opener against Robert Morris on Monday, November 4 at the Coliseum. Stay tuned for more updates on the Mountaineers’ basketball program as they continue to make moves in the offseason.
