Turf Field Provides Numerous Benefits for Ridge Community

MINERAL RIDGE — Despite the tumultuous weather axing most of the Mahoning Valley’s slate of games, the Mineral Ridge Rams played on. Their bats came alive early and often, dispatching league rival Lowellville, 18-0, in the first half of a doubleheader.

“I feel like their approach was a lot better today,” Rams coach Will Sandy said. “They weren’t trying to do too much. They were doing kind of what we taught them. Stay inside the ball, think middle, think opposite way and it paid off big time.”

The Rams have struggled to get on the field this season, playing just one game on their new field. Despite the challenges, Sandy remains optimistic about his team hitting its stride soon.

“It’s been hard with the weather,” he said. “We’ve been in the gym and outside and on the turf and trying to get on our new field. It’s been a little bit choppy, but we’re hoping to hit our stride now.”

Playing on the football stadium field on Wednesday, the Rams were grateful for the opportunity to play and practice. With a young roster and only one senior, Aaliyah Wall, the team is looking to make a playoff run by playing their best ball at the end of the year.

Mineral Ridge went on to win the second game of the doubleheader 8-0 and is scheduled to play another doubleheader against Sebring. The Rams are determined to continue their winning streak and make a mark in the league and region.
