Turlock tennis falls short in opening round of team playoffs

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The Turlock High School varsity tennis team’s dream season came to an end after a hard-fought battle against River City High of West Sacramento. Despite a long drive to the match, the River City squad came out full of energy and ultimately secured a 6-3 victory over Turlock.

Turlock’s top-ranked singles player, Peter Wilson, continued his impressive season by defeating River City’s Manav Patel in a thrilling match. Wilson, who recently won the Central California Athletic League title, remained undefeated with a 16-0 record after his victory.

Second-ranked player Erik Peterson also added to his successful season by defeating Ethan Victor in straight sets. Peterson, who finished third in the CCAL tournament, improved his record to 15-1 and credited his consistency for the win.

Although the team season has ended, Wilson and Peterson are now setting their sights on the Sac-Joaquin Section Division I singles tournament in May. Head coach Garry Harris expressed pride in his team’s performance throughout the season, highlighting the dedication and improvement shown by all the players.

As Turlock looks ahead to individual tournament play, other local schools are gearing up for playoff action. The Hughson co-ed squad will be hosting Florin High in the D-1 bracket, while Turlock Christian’s co-ed team will be traveling to face Sacramento Country Day School in the D-2 bracket. Despite the end of the team season, the excitement of playoff tennis continues for these talented student-athletes.
