Two teams and three individuals from the Bay City area qualify for boys golf state finals

In the world of high school boys golf, the state qualifiers from the MLive Bay City coverage area are gearing up for the 2024 season. The two-day, 36-hole action is set to take place on Friday and Saturday, June 7-8, with Division 1 at Bedford Valley in Battle Creek, Division 2 at Forest Akers West in East Lansing, Division 3 at Katke Golf Course in Big Rapids, and Division 4 at The Meadows in Allendale.

One of the standout teams making waves is the Essexville Garber squad. They recently clinched the Division 3 regional championship at Verona Hills, securing their spot in the state finals. Led by senior Owen Halstead, who tied for first in the regional round, the team is poised to make a strong showing at the upcoming tournament. Other key players from Garber include sophomore Jonah Williams, sophomore Devin Dueweke, sophomore Lucas Schiefer, and senior Owen Prokopenko.

Another team to watch out for is Tawas Area, which secured a third-place finish at the regional tournament with a score of 332. The Braves have a strong history at the state finals, with seven Top-10 showings since 1998, including a state championship win in 2016.

On the individual front, standout players like Logan Gehoski from Bay City Western, Gage Burgeson from John Glenn, and Cole Brady from Pinconning are set to make their mark at the state finals after impressive performances in the regional rounds.
