The United Arab Emirates (UAE) was hit with heavy rain, hail, and thunderstorms on Tuesday, prompting authorities to issue an ‘unsettled weather’ warning. The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) reported moderate to heavy rain over Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, Fujairah, Sharjah, and Ras Al Khaimah.

Residents have been advised to stay at home, with schools shifting to online classes and government employees working remotely. The NCM has warned of heavy rainfall and the possibility of hailstorms in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah over the next 48 hours.

The adverse weather conditions have caused flooding on several roads, leading to traffic disruptions and flight cancellations at Dubai International Airport. The Dubai Tram service was also disrupted, and the UAE Football Association called off all matches scheduled for Tuesday.

In neighboring countries, such as Oman, at least 14 people, including nine children, have died in flash flooding. Bahrain’s capital, Manama, has also experienced flooding on roads, while Kuwait and Saudi Arabia are bracing for potential storms.

Authorities in Oman have issued alerts for residents, urging caution due to heavy rainfall and potential landslides. In the UAE, the Ras Al Khaimah Emergency, Crisis, and Disaster Team has implemented remote learning for schools and closed all parks and beaches in the city.

The weather department has advised residents to park their vehicles at safe and elevated locations away from flood-prone areas. With heavy rain, thunder, and lightning expected to continue, residents are urged to stay indoors and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
