UAE hit by heavy rainfall causing flight cancellations and remote work for offices in Dubai

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Heavy rains lashed the United Arab Emirates (UAE) once again, causing chaos and disruptions in Dubai. The Meteorological Department issued an ‘orange’ alert as the city braced for more downpours following the flooding that occurred in April.

According to the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), Dubai is expected to experience light to moderate rain, with heavy rainfall likely in some southern and eastern areas. The temperature is also expected to rise gradually from Saturday onwards.

The heavy rainfall led to the cancellation and delay of several flights in and out of Dubai. Major airlines such as Emirates, Flydubai, Air Arabia, IndiGo, Vistara, and SpiceJet issued advisories to inform passengers about the disruptions caused by the inclement weather. Passengers were advised to plan for additional travel time to the airport due to the adverse weather conditions.

In response to the poor weather conditions, the UAE government took precautionary measures by ordering the closure of all educational institutions and implementing online distance learning classes until Friday. Government and private sector employees were also instructed to work remotely to ensure their safety.

Parks and beaches were shut down, and people were advised to stay away from affected areas to avoid any potential dangers. The UAE’s disaster management authority reassured the public of the nation’s readiness to tackle the upcoming weather conditions, stating that all relevant agencies were prepared to implement necessary measures.

The recent heavy rainfall in Dubai comes after a similar weather event in mid-April, which caused widespread flooding across the desert country. The rain had forced Dubai International Airport to suspend operations for around half an hour, highlighting the impact of extreme weather events on critical infrastructure.

As the UAE continues to grapple with the effects of climate change, it is essential for authorities and residents to remain vigilant and prepared for unpredictable weather patterns. The safety and well-being of the population should be the top priority during such challenging times.

With inputs from various agencies, the situation in Dubai and the UAE is being closely monitored to ensure the necessary support and assistance are provided to those affected by the heavy rainfall. Stay tuned for more updates on the evolving weather conditions in the region.
