UAE intensifies efforts to eradicate mosquitoes following heavy rainfall – News

The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MoCCAE) in the UAE has announced its intensified efforts to eradicate mosquito breeding hotspots and minimize mosquito infestation across the country. This initiative comes in response to the recent heavy rainfall experienced in the UAE, which has increased the risk of mosquitoes proliferating in stagnant water and damp areas.

As part of the third phase of the Anti-Mosquito Campaign, the Ministry of Health and Prevention and the Emirates Health Services (EHS) are actively promoting awareness about diseases transmitted by mosquitoes and how to prevent them. The MoCCAE stated that they will use cutting-edge international technologies to control mosquitoes in areas where they are prevalent, with special attention given to water pools where mosquitoes are commonly found.

The ministry has called on all community members to collaborate with local authorities in facilitating mosquito control efforts. Residents are urged to report any sightings or breeding locations of mosquitoes by calling the MoCCAE call center at 8003050. Locations such as construction sites, stables, schools, farms, gardens, parks, and residential areas are subject to investigation and control measures to prevent the spread of mosquitoes.

To help prevent the spread of mosquitoes, the public is advised to eliminate stagnant water in irrigation basins, swimming pools, and fountains by drying, covering, or moving them regularly. Alia Abdul Rahim Al Harmoudi, assistant undersecretary for the Sustainable Communities Sector at the MoCCAE, emphasized that the ministry will provide comprehensive information, guidance, and support to the community through various communication channels.

Eng. Othaibah Saeed Al Qaydi, director of the Municipal Affairs Department at MoCCAE, assured that all materials used in mosquito control exclusively target mosquitoes and are not harmful to humans and animals. The Ministry also highlighted the importance of repairing water leaks, which serve as a primary breeding ground for mosquitoes, and maintaining cleanliness in areas where rainwater accumulates.

HE Dr. Saif Juma Al Dhaheri, Director of the National Operations Centre at NCEMA, stressed the vital role of national collaboration in addressing health hazards comprehensively and safeguarding society. The current drive is part of the third phase of the national anti-mosquito campaign, which was initially launched in February 2022 and will continue until May 2025.

Overall, the UAE is taking proactive measures to control mosquito infestation and prevent the spread of diseases transmitted by mosquitoes. By raising awareness, utilizing advanced technologies, and encouraging community participation, the country aims to create a safer and healthier environment for its residents.
