UAE introduces Dh2 billion fund to aid Emiratis impacted by floods

The UAE government has approved a Dh2 billion aid package to assist Emiratis affected by the recent devastating storms that hit the country. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Prime Minister, announced the relief effort during a Cabinet meeting at Qasr Al Watan in Abu Dhabi.

The funds will be used to address the damage to homes and property of citizens impacted by the unprecedented severe weather that struck the Emirates. A committee will be established to assess the extent of the damage caused by the storms, which led to the highest single rainfall in 75 years.

The extreme weather resulted in widespread flooding of homes and roads, causing significant disruption to travel services. Tragically, at least three people lost their lives due to the torrential rainfall. An Emirati man in his 70s died in Ras Al Khaimah when his vehicle was swept away by strong currents during the flash floods. Additionally, two individuals suffocated in their car in Sharjah after becoming trapped in a traffic jam caused by the flooding.

President Sheikh Mohamed has called for a swift response from authorities to address the aftermath of the severe weather. He expressed appreciation for the public’s awareness and responsibility during the adverse conditions and requested quick action to limit the damage caused by the historic rainfall. Sheikh Mohamed also instructed that necessary support be provided to all affected families, ensuring they are relocated to safe locations in collaboration with local authorities.

The UAE is mobilizing resources to assist its citizens in the recovery process following the unprecedented storms, demonstrating the government’s commitment to supporting those affected by natural disasters.
