UAE Objects to Sudan’s ‘Spurious’ Accusations at UNSC

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has strongly refuted allegations made by the Permanent Representative for Sudan, El Haris Idris, at the UN Security Council meeting on April 19. In a letter addressed to the UNSC, UAE Permanent Representative Mohamed Abushahab dismissed the claims as “baseless” and contrary to the longstanding relations between the two countries.

Abushahab emphasized that the accusations of UAE’s support for the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and supplying them with weapons are unfounded and lack credible evidence. He suggested that the allegations were a diversion from the conflict and humanitarian crisis in Sudan.

Expressing regret over the failure to achieve a ceasefire in Sudan, Abushahab reiterated UAE’s commitment to a peaceful resolution of the conflict. He highlighted the importance of countering disinformation and false narratives that hinder efforts towards constructive dialogue.

The UAE remains dedicated to supporting a peaceful solution in Sudan and collaborating with all stakeholders to establish a civilian-led government through a national consensus. The letter underscores the UAE’s determination to work towards lasting peace in Sudan.
