UAE offers 6,000 rest stations for delivery workers during Midday Break

Reading Time: 2 minutes

The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) in the UAE has announced a groundbreaking initiative to provide 6,000 rest stations for delivery service workers across the country. This initiative, in collaboration with government entities and private sector companies, aims to ensure the health and safety of these workers during the Midday Break period from 15th June to 15th September 2024.

The interactive map of these rest stations will enable delivery service workers to easily locate and access them, providing them with a safe working environment. This initiative is a joint effort between MoHRE, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), Integrated Transport Centre in Abu Dhabi, departments of economic development across the UAE, and major delivery companies such as Talabat, Deliveroo, Noon, and Careem.

Additionally, numerous restaurants, shopping centres, retail stores, and cloud kitchens will also offer rest areas for delivery service drivers, further enhancing their working conditions. The Ministry emphasized the importance of the delivery services sector, highlighting the unique nature of the work and the need for timely deliveries of various materials.

This initiative builds upon the success of a similar project launched last year, where 365 rest stations were provided for delivery workers during the Midday Break. Employers are required to provide necessary amenities such as parasols, shaded areas, cooling devices, cold drinking water, hydrating materials, and first aid equipment at job sites to ensure the well-being of their workers.

The MoHRE has set up a reporting system for any violations of the Midday Break regulations, allowing workers to report any issues through the call centre, smart application, or website. This proactive approach demonstrates the government’s commitment to upholding labor rights and ensuring the welfare of all workers in the UAE.

This initiative has been welcomed by delivery service workers and industry stakeholders, who see it as a positive step towards improving working conditions and ensuring the safety of workers during the hot summer months. The collaboration between government entities, private sector companies, and delivery service providers showcases a unified effort to prioritize the well-being of workers in the UAE.

As the initiative rolls out and the rest stations become operational, delivery service workers can look forward to a more comfortable and safe working environment, allowing them to carry out their duties effectively and efficiently. This initiative sets a benchmark for other sectors to follow in prioritizing the health and safety of their workforce, ultimately leading to a more sustainable and responsible working environment in the UAE.
