The Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM) has bestowed the inaugural PAM Global Humanitarian Personality Award upon President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan at the 18th Plenary Session in Braga, Portugal. This prestigious recognition is a testament to Sheikh Mohamed’s decades-long exemplary contributions to humanitarian efforts worldwide.

PAM, an international organisation that brings together the national parliaments of the Mediterranean and Gulf regions, annually recognises individuals and organisations that promote mutual understanding and respect among nations. This year, the Global Humanitarian Personality Award honours those who have shown exceptional dedication to providing political mediation and life-saving humanitarian assistance in times of crisis.

Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s humanitarian work spans decades, with his recent announcement of the Zayed Humanitarian Legacy Initiative further solidifying his commitment to global welfare. The initiative, which allocates AED 20 billion for humanitarian causes in vulnerable regions, aims to enhance sustainable development and improve the quality of life for communities in need. This initiative, created on the 20th anniversary of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan’s passing, reflects Sheikh Zayed’s legacy of generosity and support.

Under Sheikh Mohamed’s leadership, the UAE has played a crucial role in supporting various humanitarian causes, including the global distribution of COVID-19 vaccines through the “Hope Consortium” initiative. Additionally, the UAE has provided aid to refugees and medical assistance to conflict-affected populations in the region.

H.E. Hon. Enaam Mayara, President of PAM, commended Sheikh Mohamed’s unwavering dedication to humanitarian causes, stating that his actions have safeguarded peace, human life, and prosperity on a global scale. Ambassador Dr Abdulsalam Al Madani, Roving Ambassador for the GCC Region, PAM, praised Sheikh Mohamed’s tireless contributions to humanitarian efforts, noting that his leadership has inspired a new generation of global leaders to prioritize humanitarian causes.

Founded in 2005, PAM aims to foster political, economic, and socio-cultural cooperation among its member states, addressing regional challenges and promoting peace and stability in the Mediterranean and beyond. With 31 Euro-Mediterranean, Gulf, and North African states represented equally within the organisation, PAM serves as a vital platform for inter-regional parliamentary diplomacy.

The recognition of Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan as the inaugural recipient of the PAM Global Humanitarian Personality Award underscores his significant impact on humanitarian efforts worldwide. His commitment to promoting global stability and improving the lives of vulnerable communities sets a remarkable example for leaders everywhere, reaffirming the UAE’s vision for a more harmonious and prosperous world.
