Reading Time: 2 minutes

The UAE has stepped up to support Kenya in the aftermath of devastating floods and heavy rains that have wreaked havoc across the African country. With a commitment of $15 million, the UAE aims to assist Kenya in handling the aftermath of the catastrophe that has claimed nearly 260 lives and displaced thousands of households.

The ongoing rains and floods have left a trail of destruction in their wake, prompting the Kenyan government to order the evacuation of residents in high-risk areas. Homes, roads, and bridges have been submerged, causing widespread chaos and disruption in almost every part of the country.

In response to the crisis, President Sheikh Mohamed has directed the allocation of funds to support Kenya in this time of need. Sheikh Theyab bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, chairman of the International Humanitarian Affairs Council, emphasized the UAE’s readiness to provide humanitarian aid in response to such emergencies.

As climate change continues to fuel extreme weather events and natural disasters worldwide, Sheikh Theyab stressed the importance of international cooperation in supporting countries and communities affected by such calamities. The UAE’s swift response to Kenya’s plight underscores its commitment to standing in solidarity with nations facing environmental challenges.

Minister of State Sheikh Shakhbut bin Nahyan Al Nahyan highlighted the UAE’s close ties with Kenya as a driving force behind the aid package. Expressing heartfelt condolences to the people of Kenya, especially those who have lost loved ones in the disaster, Sheikh Shakhbut reiterated the UAE’s unwavering support for the country during this difficult time.

The $15 million allocation from the UAE will contribute to relief efforts in Kenya, providing essential assistance to those affected by the floods and helping the country recover from the widespread damage caused by the natural disaster. The gesture of solidarity and support from the UAE serves as a beacon of hope for Kenya as it navigates the challenges posed by the recent floods and works towards rebuilding and recovery.

As the world grapples with the increasing frequency and intensity of climate-related disasters, international cooperation and assistance are crucial in mitigating the impact on vulnerable communities. The UAE’s proactive response to the crisis in Kenya sets a positive example of global solidarity and cooperation in times of need, reaffirming the importance of collective action in addressing the challenges posed by climate change and natural disasters.
